A thread ownership error means another connected app may still control the Instagram conversation. Review the previous tool’s permissions before retrying the same send.
Why this happens
An Instagram account can show as connected to AP3K while an earlier messaging integration retains control of a conversation. This can happen after trying another tool or migrating an existing account.
1. Review the previous tool
Check which Instagram account it still manages and disable the old automation when you are ready to switch. Keep any campaign and contact records you need before removing a channel.
2. Review Instagram app access
Open Instagram Apps and websites and inspect active connections. Remove the obsolete messaging tool if you intend to stop using it. Keep the AP3K access you authorized.
3. Review Meta business access if applicable
If the earlier tool connected through Facebook or a Meta portfolio, review its Business integrations, Connected apps, and conversation routing settings as well. Review the Facebook-side connection.
4. Test a new interaction
Return to AP3K and review connection status. Ask the second test account to send a new message or trigger a published automation. Check whether the same ownership error appears. Do not assume removing one permission automatically repairs every existing conversation.
If it persists
Contact support with the connected username, error, test time and timezone, and screenshots of the relevant connected-app settings. Exclude passwords, tokens, and unrelated private conversations.
