A paused automation is useful when an offer ends, a resource changes or a workspace moves to a different plan. The saved campaign gives you something to review instead of rebuilding from memory. The important question is not simply whether the switch is on: it is whether the connected account, trigger, message and destination are still correct. Use this checklist before returning an Instagram DM campaign to live activity.
Decide whether to pause, edit or retire the campaign
Pause a time-limited offer while you review it. Edit a minor typo only after checking that the meaning and destination remain the same. Retire a campaign when its promise no longer exists. A working URL is not proof that a campaign should remain active: the page could still show an expired discount, sold-out workshop or outdated policy.
Write a short note outside the customer-facing message about why you paused the campaign and who owns the next decision. Include the original offer and Instagram post so another editor can understand the context. AP3K does not need to invent an automatic restart date for a campaign whose offer has not been reviewed.
| Situation | Decision | Before resuming |
|---|---|---|
| Offer temporarily unavailable | Pause and review | Confirm the offer is available again |
| Destination changed | Review the saved link | Open the complete destination on mobile |
| Plan change warning | Review eligibility | Check account, features and active limit |
| Old launch has ended | Keep paused or retire | Use a new campaign for a new promise |
Find the correct account and automation
Open Automations and confirm the selected Instagram account before changing a campaign. Use a meaningful campaign name and inspect the trigger or post rather than relying on a thumbnail alone. Similar copies of the same campaign can belong to different launches.
Use the campaign’s pause or enabled control to stop new eligible activity from entering that rule. Read any warning shown with the campaign. A disconnected account, a required review or a plan restriction needs its own correction; repeatedly switching the campaign on does not resolve the cause.
Audit the customer journey before restarting
Read the Instagram caption first. If it promises a free checklist, the DM should explain how to get that checklist, and the button should lead to the same resource. If a form or payment is required, disclose that condition before the customer taps. Test the destination from a phone, including redirects and any required login.
Review the public reply, opening message and final DM separately. A friendly public acknowledgement cannot compensate for the wrong final button. Keep button labels concise and meaningful. If the campaign uses an optional follow gate, contact capture or follow-up, confirm that the extra step still serves the stated offer.
- The caption keyword matches the saved trigger.
- The post scope points to the intended content.
- The correct Instagram account is connected and ready.
- Every message reflects the current offer and policy.
- Every button opens its intended mobile destination.
- The current plan supports the configured steps and has available capacity.
Handle plan-paused campaigns deliberately
After paid access ends, AP3K can pause campaigns that exceed Free’s active limit, use paid features or belong to a locked Instagram account. Those campaigns remain saved. If Free already has five eligible campaigns active, pause one before activating a different eligible campaign. Removing a paid step can change the customer experience, so review the complete message journey afterward.
An upgrade restores the relevant entitlements but does not automatically restart campaigns. Pending messages and sessions cancelled by plan enforcement are not a backlog waiting to resume. Keep your test focused on new eligible activity. Do not promise that turning a campaign back on will send every message missed during the pause.
Test with a fresh interaction and inspect the result
After the review, enable the intended campaign and test a new eligible comment or message from another Instagram account. Confirm both the customer-facing response and the recorded activity. If the test fails, check connection readiness, the exact keyword, matching post and current usage before changing unrelated settings.
Restarting an existing campaign does not turn it into a new launch. For Next Post, take special care with the activation timeline and selected media. If your intended post is already published, explicitly selecting that post is clearer than assuming a future-post setting will move to it.
Frequently asked questions
Does pausing recall a DM already sent? No. Treat previously delivered messages as part of the customer’s existing conversation.
Does restarting send to every old commenter? No. New triggering activity and retrospective processing are different. Review the separate Backtracking controls and eligibility if you need to consider older comments.
Why is a campaign still blocked after upgrading? Check the selected account, connection, required reviews and saved configuration. A plan upgrade does not repair every unrelated issue.
Should I delete the old campaign? Only when you are sure it no longer provides useful history or a reusable configuration. Pausing gives you time to decide.
