Should You Add a Follow Request Before the Instagram DM Link?

A follow request adds a condition between interest and the promised resource. It may fit some campaigns, but it also adds friction. Judge it by whether people understand and complete the journey, rather than by follower growth alone.

The comment starts the request; your trigger and actions determine which response AP3K sends.

Disclose the condition before the request

If following the account is part of the configured flow, say so in the caption or resource instruction. Do not advertise a no-strings download and reveal a requirement only after someone comments. That mismatch creates frustration independent of whether the automation works.

Use plain language about the next step. A reader should understand why the follow request appears and what the verification control does. Avoid wording that suggests the final link has already been sent when it is still waiting behind another interaction.

Decide whether the additional step serves this offer

A community resource tied to ongoing posts may have a clearer relationship to following than a customer asking for product dimensions before buying. For urgent support or essential service information, adding a follow requirement can obstruct the purpose of the conversation.

Compare the value of the completed customer task with the value of an additional follower. A campaign that grows followers while preventing useful enquiries is not automatically successful. Keep the goal explicit before choosing the flow.

Test follower states and the final response

Use accounts you control to check the relevant follower and non-follower journeys. Inspect the follow request, its verification action, any repeated prompt, and the final delivery. Do not treat a button tap as proof that the configured follow condition was satisfied.

AP3K's opening DM and follow request are optional parts of the sequence. Review their interaction in the actual configuration rather than assuming that enabling one automatically requires the other.

Review completion and complaints together

Track the available evidence for final delivery and the destination outcome. Also review customer questions such as Where is the link? Those questions can reveal unclear instructions that totals alone hide.

If people stop at the condition, first determine whether it is a technical problem or a deliberate refusal. Simplifying the journey may be the right answer. Do not keep adding reminders to pressure someone through a step they did not expect.
