A Launch Test Plan for Instagram Comment-to-DM Automation
A phone preview is useful for checking copy and layout. A launch test must go further: it needs a real comment, a receiving account, and a completed destination journey. Write down the expected result so another person can repeat the test.

Prepare a small test record
Record the connected account, automation name, selected post, keyword, enabled actions, and destination URL. Include the time the campaign was activated. This record is more useful for troubleshooting than a screenshot of an empty inbox with no information about the source comment.
Use an account other than the connected creator or business account for the trigger. Prepare a fresh comment after activation. Avoid using a customer's real conversation as an experimental thread when you can test the same journey on an account you control.
Check both positive and negative cases
The positive case should produce the promised action. The negative case should remain quiet. For a keyword campaign, test unrelated text as well as the displayed keyword. For restricted scope, try a different post to confirm the campaign does not listen more broadly than intended.
- Matching comment on the selected post.
- Unrelated comment on the selected post.
- Matching comment outside the selected scope.
- Configured public reply and private message checked independently.
Complete optional steps and the final destination
If an opening DM is enabled, tap its configured continuation control and inspect what follows. If a follow request is enabled, test the relevant follower states with accounts you control and verify the final link arrives only under the intended conditions. Do not infer delivery from the preview alone.
Open every final link inside Instagram and complete the next action up to a safe stopping point. A booking test can stop before confirming an appointment; a store test can stop before a real charge. Record those boundaries so the report does not claim a transaction was completed.
Define pass, fail, and retest
Pass means the expected customer experience occurred and the activity agrees with it. If something fails, capture the stage and any visible error, fix one cause, and run a new test. Do not repeatedly activate overlapping campaigns in the hope that one will respond.
Keep the checklist with the campaign owner. Repeat it when the destination, post scope, account connection, or message sequence changes. A previously successful test does not cover a newly edited configuration.
