Use Instagram Comments to Collect Restock Requests

When a product is unavailable, a useful DM can point to a genuine restock signup page. The comment automation delivers that page. It should not claim to monitor inventory or send a future notification unless a separate configured system performs those tasks.

The comment starts the request; your trigger and actions determine which response AP3K sends.

Make the inventory status explicit

Tell readers the product is currently unavailable and avoid inventing a return date. If the date is tentative, label it accordingly on the destination. A waitlist is an expression of interest, not a reservation or a guaranteed allocation.

For products with sizes or colors, make sure the signup page records the requested variant. Someone waiting for a black medium should not receive an irrelevant alert for a different option because the campaign points to a generic collection.

Use a request that names the next step

A caption can say: Comment RESTOCK for the page where you can request an availability notification for this jacket. The DM should explain that the person completes the signup on the store page. A suitable button is Request restock alert.

Do not write We will DM you when it returns if AP3K has only been configured to send the initial saved link. Use your store or email platform's actual notification process and describe its channel accurately.

Test the signup and confirmation

Check the form on mobile and confirm that the selected product and variant remain visible. Review the information the form requests and its explanation of how the notification works. Use a test contact you control when verifying confirmation messages.

The restock system should define its own consent, unsubscribe, and notification behavior. Commenting a keyword to receive a signup link is not a substitute for the contact preferences collected by that system.

  • The product is correctly identified.
  • Variant selection is preserved.
  • The notification channel is stated accurately.
  • A confirmation explains what the request does and does not guarantee.

Update the campaign when stock returns

When the product becomes available, decide whether new commenters should still join a waitlist or receive the product page. Update the caption and message together if the promise changes. Do not leave an obsolete restock instruction active through a new sales period.

Measure completed alert requests in the system collecting them. Compare that number with later purchases only when the attribution is supported, and do not treat every captured Instagram contact as a confirmed restock subscriber.
